Speaker biography

Dr the Honourable Moses Cheng, GBM, GBS, JP

Dr Cheng is a practising solicitor.  He is practising as a consultant of P C Woo & Co after serving as its senior partner for 22 years.  Besides he is also serving as an independent non-executive director of several companies whose shares are listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

 

He is currently a member of the Executive Council  (ExCo) of the HKSAR, the chairman of the Council of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, chairman of the Council of the St Paul’s Co-educational College, the Ma Wan Park advisory committee, a member of the Financial Leadership Forum, the Chancellor of the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui (the Anglican Church of Hong Kong) and a member of the Vestry of the SKH St Paul’s Church. 

 

He had served as the Founder Chairman of the Insurance Authority, the Hong Kong Institute of Directors and Opera Hong Kong, and the Chairman of the Board of Education, Education Commission, Free Kindergarten Education Committee and other advisory committees, the Council of the Hong Kong Baptist University as well as a district governor of Rotary International District 3450.  He previously served as a Legislative Council Member as well as a member of the National Committee, the Beijing Committee and the Chengdu Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference of the People’s Republic of China. Mr Cheng was awarded by the HKSAR Government The Justice of the Peace in 1996, the Gold Bauhinia Star in 2003 and the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 2016.

Prof. Simon Ho

Prof. Simon Shun-Man HO is the President of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK). He was a Commonwealth Scholar and is a certified public accountant in the UK, Australia and Canada.

 

Previously, he was Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) of the University of Macau, Dean of the School of Business at the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), and Director of the School of Accountancy at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

 

He is currently Editor of the Asian Journal of Business Ethics and Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Business Ethics. In public services, he is Chairman of the Citizens Advisory Committee on Community Relations and Member of the Advisory Committee on Corruption, Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption.  He is also Chairman of the Hong Kong Corporate Governance Forum, Vice Chairman of the Training Committee of the Scout Association of Hong Kong, Council Member of the China Higher Education Association, Board Member of Monte Jade Science and Technology Association, Board Member of the Hong Kong-ASEAN Economic Cooperation Foundation (HKAECF), and Honorary Advisor to a number of international bodies including the Hong Kong Professionals and Senior Executives Association, the Dashun Foundation and the Our Hong Kong Foundation.

 

In recognition of his global contributions to corporate governance, business ethics and stakeholder model, he was the first Chinese awarded the Faculty Pioneer Award (described as Oscar of the business school world by the Financial Times) by the Aspen Institute, USA in 2008. He was elected as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics 2008 by Ethisphere, one of the world’s most recognized bodies in business ethics and anti-corruption. In 2013, in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the CSR of Chinese family businesses, he was granted the Chinese Family Business Research Pioneer Award by the China Private Enterprise Economic Research Association, China. He was awarded three times the sectional “Best Paper Award” at the American Accounting Association Annual Meeting.

Prof. Louis Cheng

Dr. Cheng is the Dr. S H Ho Professor of Banking and Finance. He is also the Director of the Research Centre for ESG as well as the Research Institute for Business at the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. He is a member of the Investment Committee of the Hospital Authority Provident Fund Scheme in which he leads the effort in promoting ESG integration for an investment portfolio of about USD 8.74bil (as of March 2020). Dr. Cheng actively engages in ESG and green finance research. In addition to publishing on Green Bond, he received various research donation and grants related to ESG and financial services for a total exceeding HKD8mil.  He is also a coauthor of a book chapter titled “Fintech Unicorns” in The Palgrave Handbook of Fintech and Blockchain, 2021.

 

Dr. Cheng is a member of the Business Studies Assessment Panel for Competitive Research Funding Schemes for the Local Self-financing Degree Sector under the Research Grants Council (RGC). He also served as a member of the Business Studies Panel (Joint Research Schemes) for the RGC, Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Panel, and University Council and Trustee Board of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Pension Fund. He is currently a member of the Examination Board of The Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong (IFPHK). Dr. Cheng has over 100 articles and books published including the Journal of Finance. Dr. Cheng is an author of Fundamentals of Financial Planning, and the lead author of Financial Planning and Wealth Management: An International Perspective, both by McGrawHill. Dr. Cheng served as a project consultant for various organizations including the United Nations, Bank of China, Investor Education Centre (IEC), SFC, MPFA, Value Partners, Agricultural Bank of China, BCT, Fubon Bank, HKEx, Charles Schwab, Tai Fook Securities, and HKSI.

Mr. Jack Poon

Mr. Jack Poon is a Professor of Practice in the School of Accounting and Finance at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) since 2018.  He taught graduate classes in blockchain, fintech, and entrepreneurial finance.  His research interests cover hypergrowth companies in the new economy and their IPO listing in Hong Kong, the US, and the STAR market; digital assets such as cryptocurrency, decentralized finance, and NFT; and fintech applications using artificial intelligence.   

 

Prior to teaching and professional consulting, Jack has been a serial entrepreneur, investor, and Silicon Valley veteran.  He started his career with Intel during the period when legendary leaders such as Andy Grove and Gordon Moore are at the helm. He played various key roles in the development of the 80486™and the Pentium™ microprocessor projects and in the software architecture design of deep sub-micron electronic design automation. While in Asia, he had served as Head of Corporate Finance for a US-listed company, Head of Infrastructure Investment for the Asia Pacific and the Indian subcontinent for a European company, and Head of Technology Services for a US technology company. Furthermore, Jack was involved with multiple startups where one listed in Nasdaq and others affiliated with TechStars Startup Accelerator and Accenture Fintech Innovation Lab. 

 

In addition to teaching and professional consulting, Jack serves as a strategic advisor to multiple startup companies.  He is a co-opted member of the Advisory Group on Digital Economy and Information Technology of Hong Kong Consumer Council and a member of the Fintech Advisory Group for Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission. 

 

He obtained three master’s degrees from the Chicago Booth School of Business with high honors in Business Administration, the Stanford University in Engineering Management, and the California Institute of Technology in Electrical Engineering. He also obtained his bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from the University of Washington in Electrical Engineering. 

Mr. Wilfred Yiu

Wilfred is Co-Chief Operating Officer and Co-Head of Markets for Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited.  Previously, he was Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer for Beijing Gao Hua Securities Company Limited, and Chairman of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Qian Kun Futures Co., Ltd.  Prior to that, he was Head of Credit Structured Products for Asia at Goldman Sachs (Asia) L.L.C.  

 

Wilfred served as a governor for the Board of Dalian Commodity Exchange in China from 2015 to 2017, and is currently an advisor for the Strategic Advisory Committee of Dalian Commodity Exchange.  He is an adjunct professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

 

Wilfred earned a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Stanford University and an MBA in Finance from the Stern School of Business at New York University.

Mr. Peter Yan, JP

Mr Peter Yan is the Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited. As the CEO of Cyberport, Mr Yan leads Hong Kong’s digital technology flagship focusing on talent cultivation, industry development, and the integration of new and traditional enterprises to create new economic drivers for Hong Kong.

 

Mr Yan is an industry leader with over 35 years of experience in the information technology industry. Prior to joining Cyberport, Mr Yan was the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of SUNeVision Holdings Limited, and has held various senior management positions in large consulting and information technology services companies including Accenture, Tradelink Electronic Commerce Limited, and Computer and Technologies Holdings Limited. 

 

Mr Yan has been active in public services and is a member of the Election Committee (the Technology and Innovation Subsector). He is particularly committed to talent development and digital technology industry development, serving on the Councils of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) and City University of Hong Kong (CityU), and as a member of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ), a member of the Human Capital Committee of the Financial Services Development Council, Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)’s MSc in Information and Technology Management Programme, Director on the Board of Management of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) Technology Transfer Office Versitech Limited, as well as an advisor for various programmes and projects for CUHK, HKU and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He also lectures as an Adjunct Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong.

 

Mr Yan also sits on a variety of committees, boards and councils of prominent organisations in the I&T sector, including the Smart City Consortium Steering Committee, the GS1 Internet of Things Industry Advisory Council and the Institute of Big Data Governance, among others.

 

Mr. Yan was appointed as Justice of the Peace in 2017, and conferred the Honoree of the Year by CUHK Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma in 2020 and the Distinguished Fellow by the Hong Kong Computer Society in 2021.  

 

Mr Yan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from CUHK, and received Executive Education from the Harvard Business School.

Dr. David von Eiff

David von Eiff joined CFA Institute in 2021 as a sustainability specialist.  David brings has a combined 13 years of experience in environmental compliance, research, and sustainability. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy at the City University of Hong Kong and his Master of Science in Environmental Economics and Public Policy at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. His main research areas address the economic, sustainability and climate change issues associated with water supply management decisions. He previously spent 8 years regulatory specialist in Environmental, Health & Safety Management Systems, having clients across a wide range of industries to improve their environmental programs and identified methods by which they could make their operations more sustainable, including process redesign, water and energy conservation, and developing environmental management systems.

Mr. Frank Heung

Mr. HEUNG Hon-wing, Frank is a seasoned commercial banker with over 30 years’ experience in various local and foreign financial institutions, who is currently Head of Structured Finance, Commercial Real Estate & Corporate Advisory at Hang Seng Bank. 

 

He assiduously leads sustainable financing initiatives, and plays a vital role in the establishment of the Green and Sustainable Finance Team in 2020. Frank is also the bank representative of the Hong Kong Green Finance Association and Asia Pacific Loan Market Association. 

 

With his aspiration in enriching the Bank’s sustainable product portfolio, Frank is dedicated to putting Hang Seng Bank at the forefront of driving the green and sustainable finance agenda and to help customers capitalize on green and sustainable finance opportunities. Under his supervision, the Green and Sustainable Finance Team has achieved an astonishing performance in 2021, assisted in the Bank’s approved green loan value totaled about HK$7.3 billion, 14.7 times the level in 2020. 

 

In addition, Frank also actively promotes green and sustainable financing by presenting in various external events, such as the ESG and Green Finance Opportunities Forum held in October 2021, and also at the seminar on Trends and Opportunities for Green and Sustainability-linked Loans, organized by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in January 2022.

 

Frank holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree in Economics and Management Studies from the University of Hong Kong and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder. Prior to joining Hang Seng Bank, he has been working in managing banking relationships with corporates across different fields including manufacturing, retail, construction, property development and investment. With his extensive experience in the financial sector, Frank has taken up various management positions within the Commercial Banking division before becoming the Head of Structured Finance, Commercial Real Estate & Corporate Advisory in 2016.

Dr. Jacky Tang

Jacky Tang is the managing director and the chief investment officer for Goldman Sachs Portfolio Management Group in Asia Pacific. He also heads up the Portfolio Advisory Group, the Investment Strategy Group, and the Sustainable Solutions Group for Goldman Sachs Consumer and Wealth Management Division in Asia. He is responsible for centralized discretionary portfolio management for ultra-high net worth and institutional clients across Asia Pacific. Jacky is also responsible for advising clients on strategic asset allocation, tactical investment strategies, and ESG investment solutions. He has served as the co-chair of the Asia PWM Sustainability Council and PWM Content Council since 2017. Previously, Jacky spent two years as a macro strategist in the Investment Strategy Group, covering Asia Pacific economics and macro strategy.

 

Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Jacky worked at Credit Suisse, where he was head of Greater China Equity Research. Prior to that, he was head of Hong Kong Equity Strategy at Merrill Lynch. Earlier in his career, Jacky worked as an investment strategist at Brevan Howard Asset Management, managing an emerging markets hedge fund. Jacky has served as an adjunct professor for the City University of Hong Kong’s department of Economics and Finance and has led a number of workshops in behavioral finance, sustainable finance, financial markets, asset allocation and portfolio management. He also served as the masters dissertation supervisor on sustainable finance for the University of Cambridge. 

 

Jacky earned a PhD in Economics from the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and a master’s degree in Sustainability Leadership from the University of Cambridge.

Mr. Richard Mak

Richard Mak is the Head of Product & Business Management – Asia of Pictet Wealth Management since January 2020. He is responsible for the product development and investment platform operation in Asia. He joined Pictet in 2011 to build the Asia Advisory Team to provide investment advices to high net-worth investors in Asia. Prior to joining Pictet, he was the Head of Advisory-Asia at BNP Paribas Wealth Management. Richard has over 30 years of experience in financial industry with 17 years in equity investments and has been advising private clients on global investments since 2003.

 

Richard holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute since 1993. He is the current President of CFA Hong Kong Society and served as the President Council Representative of Asia Pacific Region of CFA Institute from 2004 to 2008.

He graduated from The University of Hong Kong with the Bachelor of Social Sciences.

Prof. Kalok Chan

Professor Kalok Chan is Wei Lun Professor of Finance and Chair of the Department of Finance of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School.  He was the Dean of CUHK Business School from 2014 to 2019.

 

Before he joined CUHK Business School in 2014, Prof. Chan was the Synergis-Geoffrey Yeh Professor of Finance at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), where he has served as the Head of Finance Department (2003-2013) and Acting Dean of HKUST Business School (2013-14).  He was the Founding Director of the HKUST-NYU Stern Joint Master in Global Finance programme.  Prior to joining HKUST, he was an Associate Professor of Finance at Arizona State University.

 

Prof. Chan obtained his BSSc in Economics from CUHK, and PhD in Finance from Ohio State University.  As a leading scholar and a prominent researcher, Prof. Chan has had numerous publications in top ranked finance journals, and has been ranked as the top finance researcher in the Asia-Pacific region.  His research interests focus on dynamics of asset prices, derivatives, market micro-structure, and international financial markets.

 

Prof. Chan is active in contributing to the profession.  He was the past President of Asian Finance Association.  He currently serves in a number of committees, including Organising Committee of the HKIB Outstanding Financial Management Planner Awards (Chairman), Human Capital Committee of HK Financial Services and Development Council, Hong Kong Housing Authority, Hong Kong Academy of Finance, HKIMR Council of Advisers for Applied Research, Advisory Committee of the Securities and Futures Commission, and TraHK Supervisory Committee.  He is an INED in a number of listed and non-listed companies in banking, fund management, insurance, securities, and shipping ports.

Mr. Chris Tse

Chris is currently Head of Greater China Institutional Business at Mirae Asset Global Investments and is responsible in developing regional institutional business platform as well as offering Global X ETF solutions to sovereign wealth funds, pensions and endowments.

 

Chris is a subject matter expert in designing and offering index/ESG solutions to the investment community throughout his tenure as an Asia regional leader with top 3 global index/ESG data providers, namely MSCI, FTSE Russell and Nasdaq Indexes.  He worked closely with asset owners and other public-sector investment entities in their asset allocation and portfolio construction as well as risk management process.  Moreover, he consulted with ETP/OTC product issuers and regional exchanges to ensure index solutions were accessible and consistently meeting investors’ needs.

 

Before switching his career to index industry in 2010, Chris held senior positions at Credit Agricole Asset Management (nowadays Amundi), Franklin Templeton Investments and Manulife where he worked in various areas including fund distribution, investment advisory as well as product management and training. 

 

Chris Tse was Chairman of the Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong (IFPHK) that is an affiliate member of an international assembly of the Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB).  FPSB is an affiliate member of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), and works with its network of member organizations at the national and regional levels to champion the interests of consumers and providers of financial planning advice.  In 2015/16, he was appointed as Advisory Committee member by Investor and Financial Education Council (IFEC) to assist them in formulating financial education initiatives for Hong Kong SAR.  He is currently sitting in investment committee for both a public entity and an industry association.

 

Chris acquired two Master degrees, one in Economic Analysis & Policy from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom and the other in Investment Management from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.  Chris is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) holder and has extensive professional qualifications in investment and financial risk management.  In order to enhance his competence in offering Green and Sustainable investment solutions to institutional clients, he completed Certified ESG Analyst (CESGA) by EFFAS and Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR) Certificate awarded by GARP.  He has been appointed as Honorary Fellow (Master of Applied Finance: Portfolio Management and Valuation) by Macquarie Applied Finance Centre, Macquarie University since 2015.

Ms. Michelle Ng

As a portfolio advisor with Wellington Management, Michelle works closely with portfolio managers as well as the firm’s macro strategists to articulate our investment strategies and views to clients and prospects. Within the Portfolio Advisor Group, she covers a variety of strategies and asset classes, spanning equities, fixed income and alternative investments. Michelle represents the firm’s global investment capabilities and advises clients, prospects and consultants on global investing concepts.

 

Before joining Wellington Management in 2019, Michelle spent five years at Manulife Wealth and Asset Management as head of Investment Consulting Services (2016 – 2018) and portfolio specialist for their multi-asset investment team (2013 – 2016). As head of Investment Consulting Services, she was responsible for providing investment consulting to all business units in Asia on their wealth, pension and investment-linked assurance schemes platforms, including manager evaluation, fund platform diagnostic analysis and innovative product ideas research and analysis. As portfolio specialist, she was responsible for articulating the Portfolio Solutions Group’s investment philosophy, strategy, positioning and performance to clients, prospects and consultants. 

 

Prior to Manulife, Michelle was an investment consultant and then head of Investment Advisory for Greater China at Mercer Investments (2005 – 2013). Before that, she held actuarial analyst roles at Mercer Hong Kong and Willis Towers Watson Hong Kong and Sydney (1999 – 2005).

 

Michelle earned her bachelor of economics degree with a double major in actuarial studies and finance from Macquarie University, Australia (1998).
